How to Choose the Right Packaging Design for Your Product

The 3 S’s of Packaging: Storytelling, Strategy & Science at Work

Imagine, Walking into a bookstore or a book fair. You have read all the books you have, and you are looking for something new and exciting. You browse through shelves by scanning various genres and covers. A book catches your eye, and you pick it up. Now, pause and think, what made you pick this particular book up? The cover, right? Yes, you read the title and preface before purchasing the book, but that’s not what drew you in. The visuals, the colours, and the designs directly speak to you. Isn’t it? This cover is the very first impression of the book just like packaging is the first impression of any product.

With 20+ years of experience and expertise in branding and packaging, Hetarsh Creative Force firmly believes that branding and packaging is not about aesthetically wrapping any product, but it’s a combination of 3 S, Storytelling, Strategy, and Science.

Science

The product packaging structure requires a strict process-driven approach backed by market analysis, consumer psychology, and scientific reasoning. Every colour, line, visual, or pneumonic on a package has a specific meaning and purpose behind it.

We analyse the behaviour of the consumer, their patterns and way of navigating packages through shelves, and their triggers to purchase the product, and based on this data we create custom packaging designs for the products.

The science of packaging requires

Color psychology: Every brand, category, and product has a specific colour code in the market, they are related to consumer emotions along with consumer experience. So, selecting the right colour for the packaging is one of the most crucial tasks.

Visual hierarchy: Each and every element of the packaging should come in a particular order. Brand logo, key message, offer, and product name, all should be positioned in a right way to guide the eyes of consumers naturally.

Strategy

Managing a consistent identity is the key strategy of packaging. When the brand has multiple products, a unified visual language across all the products is essential for brand loyalty and consistency.

A cohesive brand identity with a consistent colour palette, typography and design style helps to create a visual harmony.

It is also important to manage the balance between innovation and brand familiarity during brand revamps.

We refine and enhance packaging without compromising brand recognition and build creative product packaging that catches the eyes of consumers.

Storytelling

Great brands are not about selling products, they are about telling stories. Packaging is a brilliant tool that allows brands to communicate about their values, culture, thought processes, beliefs, and uniqueness without using a single word.

For example, Bharat Horns Dairy Products are all about “Farm-fresh purity”, but instead of writing this on the package, we chose a different route to craft the packaging visually apparent.

We chose the classic “show, don’t tell” approach and utilized imagery, colour tones, and design architectures to showcase freshness and authenticity, giving the product more credibility.

As a leading packaging design agency in Ahmedabad, we have embraced this 3 step process to create first impressions that last in consumer’s minds.
